DIY Beauty Gifts: Homemade Sugar Scrubs
Well, we made it to California in one piece! We are officially getting settled. A lot of which is thanks to the fact that I used the cross-country relocation as an excuse to purge all the stuff I’d been clinging onto for years. As I talked about in the post last month, it was an opportunity to be more with less.
And as the holidays approach – Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years – here at MOBB headquarters, we’re aiming to do the exact same thing.
With all the hustle and bustle and commercialism that comes with this time of year, we often find ourselves strung out, strapped for cash and with a whole lot of stuff we don’t need.
Clothes that aren’t our style. Clutter in our cabinets. Bags and trash cans full of wrapping and boxes and bows.
Don’t get us wrong, we’re all for getting presents! Woot! Gimme! But this year, we’re doing things a little more thoughtful. A little more mindful. And a whole lot more from the heart. Starting with our skin.
Our skin is the largest organ in our body, we aught to take care of it, which can be difficult with so much candy, baked goods and cocktail parties at this time of year. And as it turns out, eating sugar isn’t great for our complexions. But putting it ON our skin, is.
Behold, homemade sugar scrubs!
Unlike very expensive spa brands, you can make your own at home in under 10 minutes for the ultimate DIY, natural beauty luxury. Use ’em on your face, body, feet, and hands for silky, exfoliated, delicious skin. Or better yet, give them as thoughtful gifts to your Thanksgiving hosts, guests or as stocking stuffers at Christmas.
When we give something we’ve made, it means more. It uses less. And it smells incredible.
Below are an array of our favourite DIY sugar scrubs that will help you and your loved ones pamper yourselves, save some cashola this holiday season, slough off dry Winter skin and stay beautiful, naturally. They’re loaded full of vitamins, protein, antioxidants, and healthy fats that will help turn dry, scaly winter skin, soft and smooth. Ranging in scents from sweet to citrus and experiences from perky to relaxed and rejuvenated, they all feature your most delicious holiday ingredients.
Simple Sugar Scrub via Wellness Mama
Katie’s blank slate sugar scrub is perfect for your preferred scents. A great starting place for whatever palate you choose. She also includes variations like pumpkin pie (mama what?!) sugar scrub and even lemon hand scrub.
Sweet Vanilla Sugar Scrub via Thank Your Body
Like she says, we like vanilla. And we like sugar. On our face!
DIY Peppermint Scrub Bars via Happy Mothering
These little gems are a bit different in that they’re bars, rather than a loose scrub. For the time and energy it takes to make a scrub, you could make a loose one AND a bar version and have two gifts, done and done.
DIY Sugar Scrub Cubes via Hello Natural
Unlike the other scrubs on this list, Hello Natural uses unscented soap as a base and tops it all off with maple and brown sugar!
Cinnamon Oatmeal Sugar Scrub via My Baking Addiction
On top of making your skin look beautiful, this sugar scrub also makes you smell like a wonderful oatmeal cookie. And who doesn’t love cookies??
Coffee Body Scrub via Coconut Mama
For anyone who loves coffee, this is a MUST make. Even if you don’t drink coffee, the scent will “perk” you right up. No pun intended….
Okay, totally a pun intended.
Homemade Chocolate Coconut Sugar Scrub via How Sweet It Is.
You can put it on your face. And you can eat it. We aren’t ones to complain!
Homemade Eucalyptus Sugar Scrub via Salt Lick Lessons
This particular sugar scrub is perfect for anyone who might be prone to catching colds. It’s anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, a decongestant, deodorant, antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, and has tons of other medicinal qualities.
Homemade Green Tea Sugar Scrub via Living Chic on the Cheap
Not sure if you’re getting enough antioxidants this holiday season with all the treats around? Put them on your face!
Whipped Grapefruit and Peppermint Sugar Scrub via The Kitchen McCabe
A great scrub for mornings, the grapefruit and peppermint will help you wake up during the dark Winter months.
